Islamabad, In a significant development for road safety, the Islamabad Capital Police have reported a substantial decrease in traffic violations for the year 2023. This achievement is attributed to the rigorous enforcement of traffic laws facilitated by the Safe City Command and Control Center’s electronic ticketing system.
According to Islamabad Capital Police, under the guidance of the Islamabad Capital City Police Officer (ICCPO), Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan, the Safe City Islamabad issued a total of 222,195 electronic challans (e-challans) in 2023. These challans targeted various traffic violations, such as driving without seat belts, use of fancy number plates, zebra crossing and red signal violations, over-speeding, and the use of mobile phones while driving. The breakdown of these challans included 4,495 for seat belt violations, 206,747 for over-speeding, 431 for mobile phone usage while driving, 2,008 for zigzag crossing, 37,019 for fancy number plates, and 4,619 for red signal violations.
The public relations officer of the department highlighted that there was a noticeable increase in the rate of challans for traffic violations in the year 2023. This increase was a strategic move aimed at curtailing the non-compliance with traffic laws and reducing the incidents of traffic accidents, which are a significant concern for road safety.
Furthermore, the Chief of Police Operations Safe City/Traffic emphasized the unwavering commitment of the Islamabad Capital Police to maintaining peace and security in the federal capital. Ensuring the safety and security of the lives and property of citizens remains the top priority for the force.
