Islamabad Capital Police directed to ensure traffic discipline and restrict heavy traffic during peak hours 

Islamabad, December 17, 2022 (PPI-OT):Islamabad Capital Police have been directed to ensure smooth traffic discipline and restrict entry of heavy traffic into the city during the peak hours, police public relations officers said. He said that, following the special directives of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad, the Chief Traffic Officer Islamabad Dr. Syed Mustafa Tanveer presided over a meeting and directed all zonal DSPs as well as beat inspectors to ensure the implementation of traffic rules and maintain traffic discipline in the city.

The Chief Traffic Officer directed officials to take special measures in order to maintain the smooth traffic flow and prevent accidents on the roads. He asked to restrict entry of heavy traffic into the city during rush hours and take action over use of mobile phones while driving and against vehicles having non-pattern and fancy number plates.

He said that it should be ensured that only number plates approved by the Excise Office should be used and a special awareness campaign to be launched in this regard. Chief Traffic Officer said that e-challan has been working effectively against the traffic rules violators. Implementation of the traffic laws should be ensured as all zonal in-charges will be responsible for their respective beat, he added.

He further said that strict departmental action will be taken against those who are showing negligence in performance of their official duties. The meeting focused on the issues related to controlling accidents, maintaining road discipline, ensuring implementation of traffic rules and taking action against those involved in lane violation as well as riding bikes without helmets. He directed the education wing to boost the awareness campaign on road safety and traffic rules especially regarding the use of excise approved number plates on vehicles.

CTO said that the implementation of traffic rules is the utmost priority of Islamabad capital police and it would be ensured as per the directions of IGP Islamabad. Obeying the law is mandatory for all citizens using the roads, rules of laws are equal for everyone and there will be no exception for this, he maintained. He also appealed to the citizens to obey the traffic laws in order to secure their own lives as well as of other road users.
