islamabad: H.E. Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, the Foreign Minister of Iran, called on Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif today. During the meeting, Prime Minister Sharif extended a warm welcome to Mr. Araghchi on his first official visit to Pakistan in his capacity as Foreign Minister. The Prime Minister conveyed his sincere regards and good wishes to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei and President Massoud Pezeshkian, emphasizing Pakistan’s desire to strengthen its relationship with Iran through regular high-level exchanges and enhancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
According to Press Information Department, the discussions also covered the uncertain situation in the Middle East. Prime Minister Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s support for the Palestinian people in their struggle for self-determination and statehood, expressing grave concern over Israel’s ongoing campaign against them. He called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, unhindered humanitarian assistance, and the granting of self-determination rights to Palestinians as guaranteed by UN and OIC resolutions.
The Prime Minister also condemned Israel’s attack against Iran on October 26, 2024, reaffirming Pakistan’s support for Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The Iranian Foreign Minister thanked the Prime Minister for Pakistan’s principled stance and provided insight into Iran’s perspective on the regional situation.
