Karachi, The Ambassador of Iran to Pakistan, H.E. Dr. Reza Amiri Moghaddam, met with the Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Malik Amjed Zubair Tiwana, to discuss customs and cross-border trade management between the two countries.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the meeting, which also included the Member Customs (Ops), focused on improving bilateral trade flow between Iran and Pakistan. Both parties agreed to address issues in barter trade to boost economic activities. They also concurred on the early operationalization of the gate at the Rimdan-Gabd crossing point, which is expected to facilitate traders and enhance cross-border trade.
The Iranian ambassador highlighted the need for expanding the parking area on the Taftan side to better accommodate Iranian trucks and suggested allowing free movement of these trucks up to Quetta. While acknowledging legal hurdles, the Chairman of FBR assured to consider the request.
Another significant agreement was the mutual commitment to share trade-related data digitally through the Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) system. This initiative aims to streamline and enhance the efficiency of trade transactions between the two nations.
Furthermore, the Iranian ambassador extended an invitation to a Pakistani delegation comprising officers from Pakistan Customs and other relevant departments to visit Iran. The purpose of this meeting would be to resolve all border-related issues, further strengthening the ties between Iran and Pakistan, described as “brotherly countries” in the discourse.
