Tehran, The Iranian Research Organization for Science and Technology (IROST), in partnership with the Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS) and other affiliates, has successfully held the 37th Khwarizmi International Award (KIA) and the 25th Khwarizmi Youth Award (KYA) on February 27, 2024. The ceremony recognized young talents and distinguished scientists for their innovative contributions to science, technology, and innovation (ST and I).
According to Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in The South, the event awarded certificates to the 2nd and 3rd laureates of the 25th KYA, as determined by the grand jury of the Khwarizmi Awards. The Executive Director of COMSATS also contributed a message to the occasion, which was featured in the KIA Bulletin.
Named after the celebrated Iranian mathematician and astronomer, Muhammad ibn Musa al-Khwarizmi, the awards aim to honor exceptional individuals for their advancements in ST and I. Organized annually by IROST, a Centre of Excellence of COMSATS in Iran, the KIA and KYA spotlight the impactful work of scientists, researchers, and innovators whose efforts provide substantial societal benefits through S and T solutions to global challenges.
The KIA, a prestigious accolade within the country, has been presented since 1987 by the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran. It celebrates scientists who have made significant societal contributions through their work in science and technology. The KYA, established in 1999, focuses on uplifting promising young Iranian scientists, encouraging them to advance their research careers. The awards include a trophy, a certificate, and cash prizes, with COMSATS supporting the Khwarizmi Awards since the year 2000.
This year’s ceremony not only highlights Iran’s commitment to fostering scientific inquiry and innovation but also underlines the global recognition of Iranian scientists’ contributions to addressing contemporary challenges through research and development.
