Iran and Pakistan Aim to Enhance Bilateral Trade and Resolve Border Issues

Karachi, The Ambassador of Iran to Pakistan met with the Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to discuss enhancing bilateral trade and resolving border issues between the two countries.

According to Federal Board of Revenue, the meeting focused on various aspects of customs, cross-border trade, and management to ensure a smooth flow of bilateral trade. Both parties agreed on the importance of removing obstacles in barter trade to increase economic activities between the neighboring nations.

A significant outcome of the meeting was the agreement on early operationalization of the gate at the Rimdan-Gabd crossing point, which is expected to facilitate traders and boost cross-border trade. The Iranian ambassador highlighted the need for expanding the parking area on the Taftan side to better accommodate Iranian trucks and requested permission for free movement of these trucks at least up to Quetta. The Chairman of the FBR acknowledged the legal challenges in this regard but assured to consider the request.

Furthermore, both sides agreed to work collaboratively on sharing trade-related data digitally through the Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) system. This initiative is aimed at enhancing the efficiency and transparency of trade between Iran and Pakistan.

In a significant gesture to foster cooperation and address mutual concerns, the Iranian ambassador extended an invitation to a Pakistani delegation comprising officers from Pakistan Customs and other relevant departments for a meeting in Iran. This meeting is intended to comprehensively resolve all border-related issues and further strengthen the ties between the two countries.
