Islamabad, The Chairman of the Intellectual Property Organization (IPO) Pakistan, Farukh Amil, has emphasized the significance of raising awareness among Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) about the protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights. This includes patents, copyrights, and trademarks, to combat counterfeiting and piracy effectively.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, during an awareness session in Islamabad, organized by the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry in collaboration with IPO-Pakistan, Farukh Amil addressed the pressing need for SMEs to be well-informed about intellectual property (IP) rights. The Chairman highlighted the benefits of IP protection for businesses, not only within Pakistan but also in the global market.
Farukh Amil elaborated on the role of IPO-Pakistan in fostering a conducive environment for intellectual property. He underlined the organization’s initiatives aimed at promoting business growth, creativity, and innovation, essential elements for the flourishing of SMEs.
Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari, President of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry, also spoke at the event. He acknowledged the critical role of SMEs in bolstering the economy and called for further simplification of IP registration processes. Bakhtawari urged IPO-Pakistan to introduce mobile applications to facilitate SMEs in the online registration of their products and services, making it easier to secure copyrights and trademarks.
The session underscores the growing recognition of intellectual property’s role in enhancing the competitiveness and sustainability of SMEs in Pakistan. By emphasizing IP awareness and streamlining registration procedures, IPO-Pakistan aims to protect the interests of SMEs, contributing significantly to the country’s economic development.
