Internet Blackout Extended in Odisha’s Bhadrak Amid Ongoing Unrest

Bhadrak: In response to escalating violence between two groups over a contentious social media post, the Odisha government has announced a further 48-hour suspension of internet services in Bhadrak district. This measure aims to quell the unrest that has gripped the area.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the initial clashes prompted the imposition of indefinite prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, particularly affecting regions under the jurisdiction of the Puranabazar police station. The situation remains volatile, with the local police having detained 15 individuals, predominantly from the Muslim community.

Satyajit Naik, DIG of Odisha Police (Eastern Range), confirmed that the suspension, originally set to conclude at 2 am on September 30, will now extend an additional 48 hours as authorities work to stabilize the situation. To further secure the district, two companies of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) have been deployed; one in Bhadrak town and another in Dhamnagar. Additionally, 15 platoons of Odisha Police have been stationed across these critical areas.

A flag march featuring RAF personnel was conducted in both Dhamnagar and Bhadrak town on Sunday, led by notable officials including the DIG, Bhadrak collector Dilip Routrai, and SP Varun Guntupalli, as part of efforts to restore peace and order.
