Islamabad, Today marks the observance of International Earth Day, with this year’s theme centered on addressing the challenges posed by plastic pollution. The event aims to enhance awareness about the environmental impacts of plastic, advocate for reduced reliance on plastic products, and promote a plastic-free environment.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has urged the nation to minimize plastic usage, adopt recycling, and support eco-friendly alternatives. His message highlights ongoing efforts to develop regulatory measures aimed at banning single-use plastics and restricting the use of Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) bottles within federal ministries. These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to foster a sustainable circular economy through waste reduction, reuse, and recycling.

The Prime Minister also emphasized Pakistan’s vulnerability to climate change, noting the increased economic and physical risks posed by environmental degradation. He stressed the importance of proactive measures to mitigate these risks and enhance the country’s resilience against climate challenges. Sharif reaffirmed the government’s commitment to pursuing a sustainable, cleaner, and greener future.
