International Community Urged to Resolve Kashmir Dispute as per UN Resolutions

Karachi, Amid ongoing tensions and calls for action by organizations in various parts of the territory, the international community is being urged to take practical steps towards resolving the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.

According to Kashmir Media Service, recent demonstrations have brought attention to the January 5, 1949, UN resolution, which emphasizes the principle of the right to self-determination for the Kashmiri people. Posters displayed in these demonstrations highlight the commitment of India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru to a UN-mandated plebiscite, stressing that the Kashmiri people’s right to decide their future has long been recognized but not fulfilled.

The posters seen in the streets of Srinagar strongly criticize the Indian government’s tactics in suppressing the Kashmiris’ demand for self-determination. They assert that Jammu and Kashmir is not an internal matter of India but an international dispute that remains on the United Nations agenda.

The demonstrators condemned the Indian Supreme Court’s verdict on Article 370, which revoked the special status of occupied Kashmir, alleging that the decision was influenced by the RSS-BJP’s Hindutva ideology and ignored legal and justice principles.

There is a growing call for the world community to pressure India to restore Kashmir’s special status and resolve the dispute in line with UN resolutions. Additionally, the public is being cautioned about the perceived anti-Kashmir policies of the BJP regime in the disputed territory.

These developments reflect the ongoing complexities and challenges in addressing the long-standing Kashmir issue, underscoring the need for international intervention and adherence to UN resolutions.
