Interior Minister Calls for Clerical Support in Combating Terrorism

Islamabad: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met with a delegation of Ulema and Mashaikh, urging them to bolster government efforts against terrorism and extremism in Pakistan. During the discussions held in connection with Defence Day, the minister emphasized the critical role religious leaders must play in fostering national unity and resisting violence.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Naqvi delineated a firm stance against any acts of terrorism, asserting that violence under the guise of religion contradicts the teachings of Islam. He called on extremists to surrender their arms and uphold the country’s constitution and laws.

The meeting also featured contributions from Chaudhry Salik Hussain, the Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, who highlighted the necessity for Ulema and Mashaikh to lead societal reforms. Meanwhile, Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, Chairman of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, reported that over a thousand religious scholars across various sects endorsed the Paigham-e-Pakistan initiative. This decree denounces all forms of violence, including suicide attacks and armed rebellion, as unequivocally forbidden in Islam.

Maulana Azad affirmed the religious community’s commitment to standing with the government in its campaign to eliminate terrorism and foster a peaceful society.
