Islamabad: A meeting of the National Action Plan’s Coordination Committee, led by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, has resolved to enhance coordination between the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) and provincial authorities. The meeting aimed to bolster efforts in countering terrorism across the country.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Interior Minister Naqvi emphasized the establishment of a National Fusion Center to facilitate effective coordination. The minister highlighted the pivotal role NACTA is expected to play in combating terrorism, noting that reforms have been initiated to restore the authority’s original mandate.
The meeting outlined comprehensive measures to curb the activities of banned terrorist organizations, particularly on social media, including account blockages with support from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA). Additionally, provinces will implement strategies to prevent the usage of illegal SIM cards.
In response to recent terrorist activities in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Interior Minister affirmed the federal government’s commitment to enhancing the professional capabilities of the Counter-Terrorism Force in these regions. Steps will be taken to strengthen police and frontier constabulary forces, including equipping them with the latest technology.
Minister Naqvi also stressed the importance of meeting the needs of law enforcement agencies promptly. The meeting reviewed security measures for Chinese nationals in the country, with directives for the full implementation of the security plan.
The committee was briefed on the outcomes of intelligence-based operations, reporting that 206 terrorists were killed in 7,984 operations conducted until October this year.
