Islamabad, An Inter-Ministerial Committee convened today in Islamabad to deliberate on the reforms of the Remission Policy 2002, focusing on creating a more equitable sentencing system that addresses the needs of deserving prisoners. Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar chaired the meeting, which sought to update and enhance the policy framework for prisoner remission.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the committee reviewed the existing Remission Policy 2002, initially implemented by the Interior Ministry, and discussed potential amendments aimed at improving the conditions and outcomes for prisoners. The participants presented their legal perspectives and suggestions for refining the policy, emphasizing the need for a system that fairly considers the circumstances of needy prisoners.

Additionally, the meeting covered discussions on prison reforms at the provincial level, suggesting a broader scope of policy improvements across the country. The committee’s efforts are part of a larger initiative to ensure justice and rehabilitation are accessible to all segments of the prison population, particularly those most in need of relief under the remission policy.
