SRINAGAR, Ahead of the scheduled verdict by the Indian Supreme Court on the abrogation of Article 370, significant security measures have been implemented across occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The verdict, expected tomorrow, pertains to the Indian government’s decision on August 5, 2019, to revoke the special status accorded to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 of the Indian Constitution.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the deployment of Indian troops has been notably increased around key installations such as the secretariat and the airport to deter potential anti-India protests. The Constitution Bench of the Indian Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, will deliver its judgment on the legality of the government’s actions involving both Article 370 and its corollary Article 35-A.

Residents of Srinagar have reported a marked increase in checkpoints, roadblocks, and intensified searches throughout the city. Shoib Hameed, a local resident, described the heightened presence of police and Central Reserve Police Force personnel, along with more frequent patrolling and searches by Indian forces.

In addition to increased troop deployment, bulletproof mobile bunker vehicles have been positioned at sensitive locations, and high-tech CCTV surveillance has been ramped up. These measures reflect the authorities’ anticipation of public response to the Supreme Court’s impending decision, which has been a subject of significant controversy and concern in the region since the initial revocation of Article 370.
