Inspector General of Islamabad Honors Female Police Athlete, Commits to Enhancing Opportunities for Women

Islamabad: In a commendable acknowledgment of athletic achievement and gender empowerment within the police force, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi met with Constable Umaira Sheraz, a distinguished athlete of the Islamabad Police, to honor her remarkable success in marathon running. During the ceremony, held at the IG’s office, senior police officials were also in attendance to celebrate Sheraz’s achievements.

According to Islamabad Capital Police announcement issued on 11 September 2024, IGP Rizvi awarded Sheraz with commendation certificates and a cash prize, praising her for her perseverance and dedication which led to significant success in high-altitude marathons such as “The Karakoram Challenge” and “The Karakoram Ultra”. Rizvi highlighted Sheraz’s role as a positive influence within the force and an inspiring model for women in society.

The meeting also served as a platform for IGP Rizvi to reiterate the Islamabad Police’s commitment to supporting women in the force. He assured that the police would provide all necessary facilities to empower women, enabling them to play a constructive role in societal development.

Constable Umaira Sheraz, by achieving high recognition in sports, has not only brought pride to the Islamabad Police but has also underscored the importance of inclusivity and gender equality in traditionally male-dominated fields.
