Islamabad: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has publicly censured the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party for its attempts to disrupt the recent SCO meeting hosted by the government in Islamabad. Despite these challenges, the event was executed successfully, showcasing Pakistan’s significant role in regional affairs.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, during a response to Opposition Leader Omar Ayub Khan in the National Assembly, Tarar expressed disappointment with PTI’s confrontational political tactics, highlighting the party’s history of political victimization, including targeting female leaders from both the PPP and PML(N). The minister underscored the irony in PTI’s displeasure over the SCO meeting’s success, which he suggested was a reflection of Pakistan’s strengthening position in the region.
Further in his address, Tarar reported positive economic indicators, noting a record increase in remittances, a reduction in inflation to single digits, and a rise in foreign exchange reserves. Additionally, he reassured the assembly about the integrity of Pakistan’s passport issuance process, following concerns about the potential for fraud, confirming that rigorous verification aligns with NADRA data to prevent any misconduct.
The session also saw the adoption of a motion to discuss judicial reforms, proposed by PPP Leader Syed Naveed Qamar, with discussions initiated by Opposition Leader Omar Ayub Khan. The National Assembly is scheduled to continue these discussions tomorrow at 11 a.m.
