Information Minister Calls for Nationwide Participation in Tree Plantation Drives

Islamabad: In a move to combat climate change, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has called upon various societal segments to engage in tree plantation initiatives, highlighting the critical role of reforestation in preserving environmental health and ensuring the well-being of future generations.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, during a tree plantation event organized by the Capital Development Authority in Islamabad today, Tarar emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing green cover and improving air quality across the country. He stressed the importance of viewing tree planting as a national duty, urging the integration of these activities within educational institutions to foster a culture of environmental stewardship.

Highlighting the special significance of the Margalla National Park to Islamabad’s identity, Tarar underscored the collective responsibility to shield it from environmental threats. He also called on television channels to allocate airtime for promoting tree plantation, framing it as a vital social cause.

Additionally, the Minister announced the upcoming launch of an application designed to help individuals track and care for their planted trees, aiming to boost engagement and accountability in reforestation efforts.

Romina Khurshid Alam, Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Climate Change, also spoke at the event, advocating for enhanced cooperation among various departments to ensure the success of the plantation campaigns. She reiterated the disproportionate impact of global warming on Pakistan, which contributes merely two percent to global carbon emissions yet stands among the nations most affected by climate variability.
