Inflation Surge Strains Residents of Mirpurkhas Amid Rising Prices of Essentials

Mirpurkhas: A surge in inflation has led to a sharp rise in the prices of essential commodities in Mirpurkhas, leaving residents struggling to cope with the increased cost of living. Prices of basic goods such as vegetables, pulses, ghee, and cooking oil have notably increased, with ghee, pulses, and cooking oil experiencing price hikes ranging from Rs. 80 to Rs. 100 per kilogram. The district administration has been criticized for its inability to control the escalating prices of daily necessities.

According to Bureau of Statistics Punjab, the price of ghee has jumped by Rs. 100 per kilogram, now retailing at Rs. 540 per kg. Similarly, the price of gram dal has risen by Rs. 60 per kilogram, now sold at Rs. 400 per kg, while the cost of gram has increased by Rs. 80, reaching Rs. 360 per kg. Additionally, the price of red chillies has climbed by Rs. 80 per kilogram, now priced at Rs. 680 per kg. The costs of vegetables, fruits, spices, and other daily use items have also surged unexpectedly.

Amid these developments, the residents have expressed mounting concern and urged the provincial authorities, including the Sindh government, the commissioner, and the deputy commissioner, to take decisive action against profiteers and provide much-needed relief. There is a widespread demand for effective measures to stabilize prices and alleviate the financial burden on the populace.
