India’s Repressive Tactics Cannot Suppress Plebiscite Demand, Says Hurriyat Conference

Srinagar: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has asserted that India’s repressive measures cannot quell the demand for a plebiscite in Kashmir or intimidate its people into submission.

According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, APHC spokesman Abdul Rashid Minhas emphasized in Srinagar that Kashmir remains a political issue that cannot be settled through military force or repression.

Minhas elaborated that threats, intimidation, and stringent laws will not dissuade the Kashmiri people from pursuing their freedom movement to its logical end.

He pointed out that Kashmiri leaders and activists have been detained under illegal imprisonment for over seven years, showcasing what he described as New Delhi’s bias against the Kashmiri populace.

The spokesman accused India of contravening international laws by maintaining a significant military presence equipped with nuclear and lethal weapons in the region. He further criticized the settlement of non-Kashmiris in the territory, which he claimed has altered its demography.

The statement also highlighted concerns over the activities of Hindutva organizations and accused them of attempting to disrupt communal harmony in the region. The APHC called for the release of all Kashmiris detained across India and urged international human rights organizations to exert pressure on India for their release.
