ISLAMABAD: Speakers at a recent seminar in Islamabad declared that India, due to its actions in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), should not be recognized as a democratic nation.
According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, the seminar, titled “India’s So-called Democracy: Human Rights Violations in IIOJK and International Court Systems,” was organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Cell’s Legal Affairs Wing in collaboration with the Islamabad Bar Association. The event took place at the Shaheed Hall Judicial Complex.
Notable speakers included Ghulam Mohammad Safi, Naeem Gujjar Advocate, Altaf Hussain Wani, Professor Fahd Amin, Dr. Sajad Latif, Sardar Sajid Mahmood, Advocate Malik Huzefa, and Abdul Haleem Bhutto. They criticized India’s actions in IIOJK, highlighting that the Kashmiri people have been observing India’s Republic Day as Black Day to protest the occupation.
The seminar addressed the deprivation of fundamental rights for the Kashmiri population, emphasizing the ongoing struggle for self-determination. The speakers outlined human rights violations, such as killings, arbitrary arrests, and the use of pellet guns, as evidence of systemic abuses.
Speakers argued against India’s stance on UN resolutions, pointing out India’s historical commitment to granting self-determination to Kashmiris. The seminar drew attendance from members of the Islamabad Bar and other prominent figures.
In a related development, Mushtaq Ahmad Butt, Secretary Information APHC-AJK, held discussions with Nisarah Abbasi in Muzaffarabad on the current situation in IIOJK, including demographic changes and enforced disappearances. They also planned for upcoming commemorations, such as Kashmir Solidarity Day and the Kashmir Martyrs’ Conference.
