Indian Troops Linked to Deaths of Seven in Kashmir in August

Srinagar: In a continued pattern of violence, Indian troops are reported to have killed seven individuals in the Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) during the month of August. The incidents, described as “fake encounters,” occurred amidst a broader campaign of arrests and property seizures.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the deaths were part of several confrontations staged by the forces. Additionally, one woman reportedly faced disgrace at the hands of Indian police personnel in the region. The same report highlighted a significant crackdown involving the arrest of 96 civilians, predominantly political activists, youths, and students, during 186 cordon and search operations and house raids. Many of those detained were charged under stringent laws such as the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Public Safety Act (PSA).

The operations extended to the attachment of property, including homes and lands, belonging to five Kashmiri individuals. Furthermore, eight Kashmiri Muslim employees were reportedly suspended from their government jobs by the regime controlled by the Bharatiya Janata Party in New Delhi.

The report also sheds light on the plight of approximately five thousand Kashmiris, including prominent Hurriyat leaders and activists. Figures such as APHC Chairman Masarrat Aalam Butt and Muhammad Yasin Malik are among those detained under what are described as fabricated charges, facing imprisonment both within IIOJK and in other parts of India.
