Srinagar, Indian security forces’ operations in Jammu and Kashmir resulted in the deaths of eight individuals in the region during May, amid ongoing tensions and security crackdowns. These incidents are part of what local sources describe as continued state actions in the territory.
According to Kashmir Media Service, three of the eight killed were youths who died in what were described as “fake encounters” or while in custody. The report also noted significant detentions and injuries last month, with security forces arresting 703 people, including notable Jamaat-e-Islami leader Advocate Zahid Ali. Additionally, confrontations with protestors led to at least four individuals sustaining injuries due to what was termed the use of “brute force.”
The operations in May further led to the damage of three houses, contributing to the ongoing unrest and criticisms of the Indian security approach in the region.
