Srinagar: Indian troops in their latest operation have been accused of killing two Kashmiri youth in what is being described as a fake encounter in Baramulla district of Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir.
Reports from Kashmir Media Service indicate that the incident took place amid a cordon and search operation conducted by Indian forces in the Sarjeevan Uri Nala area. The operation, referred to as Operation TIKKA by the troops involved, resulted in the deaths of the two youth.
According to statements from the Indian Army, surveillance detected the movement of 2 to 3 individuals in the area near Uri Nala. The troops responded to the detected movement by challenging the individuals, which led to a brief exchange of fire.
This incident occurs against a backdrop of increased military vigilance in the region. The area has been on heightened alert following a recent incident in Pahalgam, where 26 people, primarily non-locals, were killed.
The ongoing security operations and associated fatalities have drawn significant attention to the region, adding to the already complex situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
