Indian Supreme Court Set to Announce Verdict on Article 370 Petitions

New Delhi, The Indian Supreme Court is expected to deliver its verdict on Monday regarding the petitions challenging the abrogation of Article 370, which previously granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir. The anticipated decision follows a prolonged legal battle that has drawn significant attention both nationally and internationally.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the judgment will be delivered by a five-member bench led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud. The bench had reserved its verdict in September after hearing over 20 petitions. These petitions challenge the Indian government’s 2019 actions, which revoked Jammu and Kashmir’s special status and reorganized the territory into two Union Territories.

The court’s hearings included rejoinders from several senior advocates, including Kapil Sibal, Gopal Subramanium, Rajeev Dhavan, Zaffar Shah, and Dushyant Dave. Their arguments centered on the legality and constitutional validity of the Indian government’s decision to revoke Article 370.

The upcoming verdict from the Supreme Court is highly anticipated, as it will determine the future legal status of Jammu and Kashmir and has implications for the region’s autonomy and governance.
