New Delhi: The Indian Supreme Court has mandated that Muhammad Yasin Malik, the detained chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, appear via video-conferencing in a Jammu court from Tihar Jail on March 7.
According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, a bench comprising Justice Abhay S Oka and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan acknowledged that the Jammu sessions court possesses a functional video-conferencing system, facilitating the virtual proceedings.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had requested the transfer of trials related to the 1989 abduction of Rubiya Sayeed, the daughter of former Indian minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed, and the 1990 Srinagar shootout case, from Jammu to New Delhi. During the proceedings, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the CBI, informed the court that the video-conferencing facilities in the Jammu court were confirmed to be operational by the registrar general of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court.
