Indian Supreme Court awards death sentence to Muslim man

New Delhi, November 03, 2022 (PPI-OT): In blatant discrimination against Muslim minority, Indian Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed the plea of one Muslim man, Mohammad Arif, seeking review of death penalty in the 2000 Red Fort attack case. A bench comprising Chief Justice Uday Umesh Lalit and Justice Bela M Trivedi said, “We affirm the view taken by this court and reject the review petition”.

Arif was an accused in the Red Fort attack on December 22, 2000. Interestingly, the same Supreme Court had, on May 18, ordered the immediate release of Rajiv Gandhi’s assassin Nalini Sriharan, who was sentenced to life imprisonment. Perarivalan has spent 31 years in jail. The legal experts say Muhammad Afzal Guru and Muhammad Arif had been particularly targeted with death penalty because of their Muslim background.
