New Delhi, June 11, 2023 (PPI-OT): In growing intolerant India under Narendra Modi government, even families of Indian armed forces personnel are not safe as in one latest case an Indian army soldier deployed in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir posted a video complaining that his wife back home in Tamil Nadu, India, was stripped naked and brutally attacked by a mob and police reportedly took no action against the incident.

The video went viral triggering a war of words between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the DMK government in the state. The soldier has been identified as havildar Prabhakar. As the video picked up traction, BJP state president K Annamalai took to Twitter to say, “Had a telephonic conversation with the Havildar, who is bravely serving our country [India] in Kashmir and his wife, based out of Tiruvannamalai. Truly gutted to hear her story and I felt ashamed that this had happened to her on our Tamil soil! Our party people are rushing to attend to her now, who is admitted to a hospital in Vellore.”

Responding to Annamalai’s tweet, a Lt Colonel Thiagarajan tweeted: ‘My wife is stripped half-naked and beaten very badly.’ In what world is this just? This is the pathetic condition of an army solider on duty in Kashmir kneeling down to save his wife in Tamil Nadu.”

“The rise in such incidents in TN shows lawless condition,” he wrote, urging the National Commission for Women to take action and save the dignity of the woman. While Colonel Malkiat Singh tweeted: “You have to tell both sides of story for honest opinion. Has FIR been lodged?” Other Twitter users said it is heartbreaking to see a soldier pleading to save his family while others said that we need to hang our heads in shame for allowing a soldier’s family to be treated in this fashion.
