Imphal, September 14, 2023 (PPI-OT): An Indian police sub-inspector was killed in the violence-hit Indian state of Manipur.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the police sub-inspector, Ongmang Haokip, was killed by a sniper at Chingphei in Churachandpur district of the state. Later, Indian police in reiteration shot at and injured two civilians in the same area.
Manipur has been witnessing a massive violence since May 3 when a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ was organised in the hill districts to protest against the Meitei Hindu community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe status. Around 200 people have lost their lives and tens of thousands have been displaced in the state due to ethnic and military violence during the period.
