Indian Military Occupation a Major Barrier to Peace in Kashmir: Hurriyat AJK Leaders

Islamabad, Prominent leaders of Hurriyat AJK, including Sheikh Abdul Mateen, Advocate Pervaz Ahmad, Syed Faiz Naqshbandi, and Uzair Ahmad Ghazali, have asserted that India’s military occupation of Jammu and Kashmir represents the most significant hindrance to the establishment of peace and development in the region.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the aggressive policies of the Indian government, particularly under the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), are exacerbating tensions and conflict in Kashmir. They criticized India for attempting to obliterate every aspect of Islamic civilization in the occupied territory. The leaders argued that India’s avoidance of a peaceful and just resolution of the Kashmir issue stands as a major obstacle to genuine peace and progress in South Asia.

The statements issued highlighted that the BJP-led Indian government is waging a war against Kashmiri Muslims, implementing imperialist policies such as demographic changes to reduce the Muslim majority, seizing lands from local citizens, incarcerating innocent Kashmiri individuals, and undermining the rights of Kashmiris in their own land.

They compared India’s actions in Jammu and Kashmir to Israel’s policies in Palestine, stating that both countries are engaged in a similar process of land usurpation and suppression of the indigenous population’s rights. The leaders emphasized that the people of Kashmir staunchly reject India’s military occupation and enforced rule, and they are committed to defending their state, Islamic identity, and rights at all costs.

This strong stance from the Hurriyat AJK leaders highlights the deep-rooted and ongoing conflict in Kashmir, underscoring the urgent need for international intervention and dialogue to resolve the longstanding dispute.
