Indian Lawmaker Arrested on Sexual Harassment Charges After Returning from Abroad

Bengaluru, Indian lawmaker Prajwal Revanna was arrested upon his return to Bengaluru, Karnataka, following sexual harassment allegations. Revanna, aligned with the Janata Dal (Secular) party and related to prominent political figures, had been abroad since the accusations surfaced, coinciding with the national election period.

According to Kashmir Media Service, The state of Karnataka formed a special investigation team to investigate the accusations after obscene videos linked to Revanna were circulated right before the elections on April 26. The controversy has sparked intense criticism from opposition leaders who accuse Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration of failing to prevent Revanna from leaving India after the allegations emerged. Modi has responded by describing the issue as a law and order problem, insisting on stringent action against the offenders. Revanna is currently contesting the elections, seeking re-election, and faces several charges as the investigation continues.
