New Delhi, October 01, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Indian government has extended the draconian law, Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), in Arunachal Pradesh state’s three districts Tirap, Changeling and Longding from today (Saturday) to 30 March next year. Indian media quoting a notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) reported that in addition, the Government of India has also extended AFSPA in the areas falling within the jurisdiction of Namsai police station in Namasi district and Mahadevpur police station in Karimnagar district in Arunachal Pradesh.

“Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts in Arunachal Pradesh and the areas falling within the jurisdiction of Namsai and Mahadevpur police stations in Namsai district of Arunachal Pradesh, bordering the State of Assam, are declared as ‘disturbed area’ under Section 3 of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 for a period of six months with effect from October 1, 2022, unless withdrawn earlier,” reads a fresh notification issued by MHA on Friday.

Earlier, the Indian government had declared these areas as ‘disturbed area’ under AFSPA for six months from 01 April to 30 September 2022. The AFSPA gives the Indian troops unbridled powers to arrest a person without a warrant and enter or search premises without a warrant. It even gives them the power to shoot and kill a person without warning.
