Indian Government Orders Seizure of TeH and JKML Assets in IIOJK

New Delhi, In a recent development, the Indian government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has issued directives for the confiscation of assets belonging to organizations involved in the freedom movement in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

According to Kashmir Media Service, this move specifically targets Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) and the Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League (JKML), both of which are led by Masarat Alam Butt. The Modi administration has instructed the IIOJK administration to seize all assets, including freezing bank accounts and financial resources of these organizations.

The Indian Home Ministry, in two separate notifications, has declared the Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League (Masarat Alam faction) an unlawful outfit as of December 27, 2023, under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967. Similarly, Tehreek-e-Hurriyat was banned on December 31, 2023, under the same legislation. These actions represent a significant escalation in the Indian government’s approach towards groups it deems are part of the ongoing freedom struggle in the region.
