Washington: An Indian national and government employee has been removed from his position by the Indian government after being implicated in an attempt to assassinate pro-Khalistan activist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.

According to Kashmir Media Service, this move follows an indictment issued by the U.S. Department of Justice. The announcement was made in a statement from the U.S. State Department, confirming the removal after a U.S. investigation revealed links between the individual and the assassination plot.

The decision comes after an Indian inquiry team visited the U.S. to explore possible connections between Indian entities and attacks on the Sikh community in the U.S.

U.S. State Department Spokesperson Mathew Miller, responding to questions about the inquiry, stated, “They (India) did inform us that the individual who was named in the Department of Justice indictment is no longer an employee of the Indian Government.” While Miller did not disclose the individual’s identity, the person is referred to as ‘CC-1’ in the Department of Justice indictment and is reportedly an Indian police officer stationed in North America.

Miller emphasized that the U.S. will continue to monitor the investigation closely and will maintain communication with India as their inquiry progresses.
