Indian Forces Ramp Up Operations Ahead of Republic Day in IIOJK

Srinagar, In the lead-up to India’s Republic Day on January 26, Indian forces have notably increased their siege, cordon and search operations, and house raids across occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, these intensified operations are being conducted in various districts including Srinagar, Kupwara, Baramulla, Bandipora, Ganderbal, Budgam, Islamabad, Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam, Ramban, Kishtwar, Rajouri, and Poonch. Personnel from the Indian army, Central Reserve Police Force, and Special Operations Group, armed with rocket launchers and sophisticated weapons, have been deployed across these areas.

This escalation of military and police activity occurs against the backdrop of the ongoing siege in the region. Since August 2019, residents of occupied Jammu and Kashmir have been living under what is described as an ‘open prison’, with significant restrictions and heightened security measures in place.

The increase in military operations ahead of Republic Day is indicative of the tense and heavily monitored atmosphere in the region, impacting the daily lives of the local populace.
