Srinagar: Indian security forces arrested two young men, Zubair Ahmad and Hijaz Nazir, in Pulwama district during a cordon and search operation in the Awantipora area of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
According to Kashmir Media Service, the arrests occurred on the fifth anniversary of the controversial abrogation of Article 370, which had granted special status to the region. The removal of this article has been marked by increased military actions and heightened tensions in the area.
The ongoing operations and the timing of these arrests underscore the continuing security crackdown in the region, which activists and local populations assert exacerbates the already strained relations between Kashmiris and the Indian government.
