Indian Forces Accused of Massacres in Kashmir to Suppress Self-Determination Struggle

Srinagar, Indian military, paramilitary, and police forces have been accused of perpetrating numerous massacres in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) over the past three decades, aimed at suppressing the Kashmiris’ struggle for self-determination.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the mass killings began with the Magarmal Bagh massacre in Srinagar in 1990, where Indian troops killed 14 innocent people. Since 1989, there have been over 30 such incidents, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of Kashmiris and destruction of property worth billions. The All Parties Hurriyat Conference leaders, including Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopori and others, have condemned these acts, asserting that such brutalities will not deter the Kashmiri freedom struggle.

They have called for an international investigation into these massacres and demanded justice for the victims. In a related development, posters have appeared in Kashmir urging the observance of India’s Republic Day on January 26th as a Black Day, highlighting India’s ongoing denial of basic and democratic rights in the region. Additionally, during an event organized by the United Peace Alliance in Jammu, social and political activists called for a comprehensive dialogue involving India, Pakistan, and the Kashmiri leadership to resolve the Kashmir dispute permanently.
