Indian Farmers to Rally at Shambhu on June 2 in Continuing Protests

Patiala, Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher announced plans for a large-scale mobilization of farmers to the Shambhu Morcha on June 2, using tractors and trollies, as part of ongoing protests against current governmental policies.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Pandher, in a video message, called on the residents of Punjab to reject the divisive tactics allegedly employed by the BJP and RSS, which he claims are creating rifts between Hindu and Sikh communities, as well as among Dalit and upper-class groups. He criticized these strategies as efforts to secure electoral victories. Further, Pandher highlighted threats from BJP leaders who he said are intimidating farmers with potential legal actions post-election, including threats of imprisonment.

The ongoing farmer protests, which began on February 13, have seen significant violence and hardship. A tragic tally of 22 farmers, including a young man of 22 named Shubhkaran Singh who was fatally shot on February 21 at the Khanauri border, have died in the course of these protests. Additionally, 35 others have sustained injuries with severe cases such as 17-year-old Jaskaran, who lost his right arm due to a gunshot.
