Indian Farmers to Escalate Protests with Nationwide Tractor Marches on Independence Day

New Delhi: Indian farmers, under the banners of Samyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, have unveiled plans to intensify their ongoing protests by conducting tractor marches across the country on August 15 and burning effigies of the BJP on August 1. These actions are part of a broader campaign to secure legal guarantees for minimum support prices (MSP) for their crops.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Sarvan Singh Pandher of Kisan Mazdoor Morcha emphasized the significance of the upcoming events during a press conference. He highlighted that their “Delhi Chalo” march, a major protest initiative demanding MSP legislation, will reach its 200-day milestone on August 31. Pandher has called for increased support at key protest sites on the Punjab and Haryana border.

The farmers’ mobilization efforts include plans to march to district headquarters across India on August 1 to express their discontent with the current administration’s policies by burning effigies of the ruling BJP. The culmination of these protests is scheduled for India’s Independence Day, where they aim to demonstrate their demands and solidarity through tractor marches in various districts.

The ongoing farmer protests began on February 13, with participants demanding MSP legislation among other issues but were met with resistance from Haryana Police, resulting in prolonged encampments at border points like Shambhu and Khanauri.

The escalation in protests has drawn attention from multiple political figures, with representatives from Shiromani Akali Dal, Congress, and AAP meeting with farmer leaders following the recent announcements.
