Srinagar: An Indian Central Reserve Police Force officer from the 178 Battalion reportedly committed suicide in Shopian, Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, by using his service rifle at the Horticulture farm in the Zainapora area of the district. This incident adds to a troubling trend of self-inflicted deaths among Indian forces in the region.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the officer was identified as Param Veer. His death highlights the ongoing mental health challenges faced by personnel in the area. Since January 2007, a total of 613 Indian forces’ personnel have reportedly taken their own lives in the territory, underscoring a persistent issue within the ranks.
Additionally, in a separate incident, a 24-year-old Indian army officer, CT Satnam Singh, died when his rifle accidentally discharged in the Chatroo area of Kishtwar district. Meanwhile, the body of a Village Defense Guards member was discovered under mysterious circumstances, along with his rifle, in the Chapper area of Udhampur district on Tuesday. These incidents reflect the complex security and personnel challenges in the region.
