Srinagar: An Indian Border Security Force (BSF) officer has reportedly taken his own life in Kupwara district of Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir. The officer, whose name has not been disclosed, allegedly shot himself in the head during his duty hours in the Trehgam area, as reported by Kashmir Media Service.
The officer was immediately transported to the Sub-District Hospital in Kupwara. Upon arrival, medical staff declared him deceased. Authorities stated that the motive behind the act remains unclear, and an investigation is currently underway to ascertain further details.
This incident adds to a troubling statistic, marking the 623rd such death among Indian security forces in the region since January 2007. The ongoing investigations aim to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the officer’s death.
