Srinagar: In a continuation of measures perceived as part of a larger campaign by the BJP-led Indian government, authorities in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir have confiscated the property of Adnan Shafi Dar in the Wandina Melhora area of Zainapora, Shopian district. This action, executed under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), forms part of an increasing crackdown on local Kashmiris.
According to Kashmir Media Service, officials have justified the property attachment by alleging that Dar was actively associated with a mujahid organization. The legal basis for this action stems from a case lodged at the Zainapora Police Station, highlighting the application of stringent laws in the region.
This event is the latest in a series of property seizures following the revocation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status in August 2019. Critics argue that these actions are strategically aimed at altering the demographic landscape of the region, asserting that the dispossession of local Kashmiris is intended to facilitate the settlement of individuals from outside the area, which they claim could threaten Kashmir’s distinct cultural and political identity.
