Srinagar: Indian police arrested Mushtaq-ul-Islam, a prominent leader of the Hurriyat Conference, today in the Batamaloo area of Srinagar, in the region of Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir. This arrest comes shortly after his release last month from a prolonged detention in Uttar Pradesh.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the arrest was made during a raid at Mushtaq-ul-Islam’s residence. The leader, who has been detained multiple times since 1983, cumulatively spending over 25 years in prison, was taken to an undisclosed location following his arrest.

Mushtaq-ul-Islam’s detention history and his role in the Hurriyat Conference have made him a notable figure in the ongoing conflict in the region. His recent release and subsequent re-arrest highlight the continuing tensions and the stringent measures employed by Indian authorities concerning separatist leaders in Kashmir.
