Indian Army Trains Village Defence Guards in Weapon Handling in Reasi

Jammu, In a recent development in the Reasi district of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian Army has been reported to provide weapon training to a group known as the Village Defence Guards (VDGs), previously referred to as Village Defence Committees (VDCs). This initiative, reportedly organized by the army, has raised concerns due to the VDGs’ controversial history of targeting civilians sympathetic to the freedom movement in the region.

According to Kashmir Media Service, an armed training camp workshop was conducted where Indian troops imparted their weapon handling skills to the VDG members. The training covered various aspects of weapon management, including handling, cleaning, musketry, and minor repair works. Approximately 30 VDG members participated in this training camp, aiming to bolster their capabilities in handling weapons.

The involvement of the Indian Army in training civilian groups like the VDGs has been a contentious issue, especially considering the allegations of these groups engaging in activities against civilians involved in the freedom movement. The recent training sessions underscore the ongoing militarization in the region and the complex dynamics between the Indian forces, local defense groups, and the civilian population.
