Jammu: An Indian army soldier, identified as Vijay Kumar, was killed in a gunfire incident in the Kishtwar district of Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, according to a report from Kashmir Media Service.
The 27-year-old soldier, hailing from Junjhunu, Rajasthan, was discovered dead early Sunday morning while on duty, police officials confirmed.
Kumar was rushed to a nearby hospital, where medical personnel pronounced him dead upon arrival.
Initial reports from the Indian police suggest the fatality was caused by an accidental discharge of a firearm. Further details are yet to be disclosed as investigations continue.
