Jammu, An Indian army soldier, serving as an Agniveer under India’s new recruitment policy, died from a gunshot injury under mysterious circumstances in the Jammu district of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the incident occurred in Tanda near Akhnoor town of the district while the soldier was on sentry duty. The exact circumstances of the shooting, whether it was accidental, a suicide, or if the soldier was shot by another soldier, are yet to be determined.
The report details that the gunshot was heard by other soldiers at the unit, who then found the Agniveer injured. He was immediately rushed to a nearby military hospital, where he was declared dead.
The incident comes amid reported growing discontent among Indian soldiers, particularly Agniveers, regarding the Agnipath Scheme. This scheme involves a shorter tenure of four years, including six months of training. After their service period, these Agniveers are not eligible for a pension or other military benefits, which has been a point of contention among the ranks.
The death of the soldier under such circumstances raises questions about the overall morale and working conditions within the Indian military, especially among those recruited under the new policy.
