Indian Army Accused of Torturing Civilians in Kishtwar

Jammu: Four civilians were reportedly tortured by the Indian army during an operation in the Kishtwar district of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the individuals, identified as Sajad Ahmad, Abdul Kabir, Mushtaq Ahmad, and Mehraj-ud-Din, were called to the 11 Rashtriya Rifles camp in the Chas area of Mughal Maidan for questioning related to a recent attack. All four men are residents of Kuath village and work as daily wage laborers.

Their families allege that they were released with severe injuries, with medical examinations revealing signs of assault. A family member stated that the victims could barely walk, with some requiring assistance to move. While being transported to a hospital, the families claim they were intercepted by the army at Bhanderkoot and taken back to the camp, where officials reportedly promised punitive measures against those responsible.

The families are demanding accountability and have urged authorities to take action against the perpetrators. A senior police officer has confirmed that an investigation is underway, affirming that “the law will take its course.”
