India to deploy over 60,000 additional paramilitary personnel for duty during Amarnath Yatra

Srinagar, June 14, 2023 (PPI-OT): Indian government will deploy over 60,000 additional paramilitary personnel across Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir for the upcoming Hindu pilgrimage Amarnath Yatra, scheduled to begin from next month. Government-run All India Radio (AIR) reported that during the 62-day long pilgrimage starting on July 01, over 60,000 paramilitary personnel will be deployed from Lakhanpur, the gateway of occupied Jammu and Kashmir to the cave of Amarnath.

The report said that this deployment will be in addition to tens of thousands of the troops already deployed across the territory. Apart from that, the report said sniper and sharp shooters will also be deployed at many locations while the yatra convoy will be escorted with Indian forces’ personnel laced with technical gadgets. The report said the additional companies of paramilitary forces are expected to arrive in the territory by this week. The deployment will be made from June 20 along the Srinagar-Jammu highway and the twin Baltal and Pahalgam routes leading to the Amarnath cave, the report said.

It added that personnel from ITBP (Indo-Tibetan Border Police), BSF (Border Security Force), SSB (Sashastra Seema Bal), and CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) are also expected to be deployed from June 20 to strengthen the so-called security structure during the two-month pilgrimage. Meanwhile, the administration has established five registration counters at prominent locations of Jammu city for registration of the Hindu pilgrims. The online helicopter ticket booking will also commence this week for the yatra.

It is to mention here that while Hindutva Indian government led by Narendra Modi is mobilizing all its resources for the Hindu Amarnath Yatra, it often disallows the Muslims to perform Juma prayers and other religious obligations. It has kept the prominent religious leader, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, under continued house arrest since August 05, 2019 and put many religious leaders behind bars.
