New Delhi, India has expressed discontent over a recent statement by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which criticized the Indian Supreme Court’s ruling regarding the political status of occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The OIC called for the resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions.
According to Kashmir Media Service, India’s response, articulated by External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi, did not directly mention any specific OIC-member country. Bagchi characterized the OIC’s statement as both “ill informed and ill intended,” and asserted that “such statements only undermine the credibility of the 57-member grouping.”
The OIC’s statement, issued on Tuesday, expressed concern over the Indian Supreme Court’s endorsement of what the OIC deemed as “unilateral actions” by India in August 2019. In its condemnation, the OIC reiterated its stance, calling for the reversal of “all illegal and unilateral measures taken since 5 August 2019 aimed at changing the internationally recognised disputed status” of Kashmir.
This exchange highlights the ongoing international debate and diplomatic tensions surrounding the status of Jammu and Kashmir, a region that has long been a focal point of conflict and diplomatic contention between India, Pakistan, and other interested parties.
