India-Pakistan Tensions Rise Over Indus Waters Treaty Dispute

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Pakistan has voiced strong opposition to recent comments made by the Indian Home Minister regarding the Indus Waters Treaty. According to a statement released by the ministry, the Home Minister’s assertion that the treaty “will never be restored” displays a disregard for the sanctity of international agreements.

The Indus Waters Treaty, established to allocate water resources between India and Pakistan, is being threatened by India’s recent declaration to hold the treaty in abeyance, which the ministry states is a violation of international law and treaty provisions. The spokesperson described this move as setting a dangerous precedent that could undermine the credibility of international agreements.

Pakistan has called on India to rescind its unilateral actions and restore the treaty’s implementation. The spokesperson emphasized that water should not be weaponized for political purposes, highlighting that such actions are contrary to responsible state behavior.

The ministry reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to the treaty and assured that it will take necessary measures to protect its rights under the agreement. The situation adds to the ongoing tensions between the two nations, raising concerns about future diplomatic relations.
