Jammu: Indian forces have launched extensive cordon and search operations across the Jammu region and parts of the Kashmir valley, leading to increased harassment and intimidation of local residents. This marks the second consecutive day of these operations.
According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, personnel from the Indian army, police, and Central Reserve Police Force are conducting operations in several districts, including Kishtwar, Doda, Ramban, Rajouri, Poonch, Udhampur, Reasi, and Jammu. The raids have been carried out under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, targeting what officials describe as peace and freedom-loving people. In Rajouri alone, 25 locations were subjected to searches.
These operations are part of a broader crackdown on Kashmiri voices and resistance movements in the region. The UAPA has been criticized for being used to detain political activists, journalists, and civilians without evidence or trial.
The raids began early, with searches at the homes of individuals such as Iftikhar Hussain and his brother Mohammad Parvaz in Tundi Tarar. Although officials acknowledged that nothing incriminating was discovered, the operations persisted, with a continued focus on local residents.
This crackdown reflects the Indian government’s ongoing military approach to suppress dissent in Jammu and Kashmir. Human rights and political groups in the region have condemned the raids, arguing they are intended to instill fear under the pretext of counterterrorism efforts.
